Course Objectives This course aims is to introduce students how the aging and the changes according to ageing and the importance of life quality of elderly.
Learning Outcomes The students who succeeded in this course;
  • understand the importance of life quality, healthy aging and nutrition in elderly care
  • explain factors affecting aging, how to prevent premature aging, evaluate elderly people
  • can take care of old people, evaluate elderly abuse and neglect
  • evaluate national and international policies, functions of organizations, foundations related to elderly
  • explain the laws, regulations and rules related to old people in Turkey
Course Description Definition of aging. The history of the science of old age. definitions of geriatrics and gerontology. The epidemiology of aging in Turkey and around the world. theories of aging. physiological and psycho-social changes due to aging. factors that affect aging and old age. the prevention of premature aging. problems in old age. Evaluation of the elderly. the general care of the elderly. old age and ethics. The importance of quality of life of older individuals. geriatric emergencies. common problems in old age. healthy and active aging. nutrition in old age. old age of national and international policies. concerning the elderly association of institutions, organizations and activities. Laws and regulations concerning the elderly in Turkey.
